Cath Kidston is a popular floral print design that is found on all sorts of things like bags, stationary, clothes, pillows and even coffee mugs, so why not on a cake?! Since it was a baby girl's first birthday, there would be lots of sweet pastel shades of pink and a splash of light blue and green for colour on all the items on the dessert table. I got to make macarons, cupcakes, cake pops, cookies & the cake!

For the macarons, the pink shells were filled with smoked salted caramel, and the white shells were filled with dark chocolate ganache. Making "true" white macaron shells has always been challenging for me. They somehow end up off-white after coming out of the oven cuz they get a little "tan". I tried adding in a generous squirt of Americolor Bright White gel colouring to this batch of white macarons, but they still didn't come out as white as I wanted them to.

The cupcakes were chocolate and red velvet, frosted with vanilla Swiss meringue buttercream, in two shades of pink. I used a Wilton 2C piping tip for a prettier swirl on the cupcake and added some dainty nonpareils and pink dragees on top. I was so excited to have found the perfect floral-patterned pink cupcake cases to bake these cupcakes in! Totally Cath Kidston-style!

The birthday girl's mummy requested really, for just a round edible image with a Cath Kidston pattern, on a plain round sugar cookie. I wanted to make the design just a little more interesting and add a touch of girly to it by making scalloped round cookies with a light pink fondant background behind the edible icing image instead. I think they look much prettier this way.

The cake pops are made of chocolate cake, crumbled and swirled with vanilla Swiss meringue buttercream, and dipped in white and strawberry pink chocolate. Before the chocolate coating fully set, I dredged them in sanding sugar. Once they were fully dried, I added a small daisy flower on top, fixing it on with a small dollop of royal icing.

The cake was a smaller 5" & 7" 2-tiered Devil's Food Cake filled with whipped dark chocolate ganache. The design was selected by the birthday girl's mummy, and was pretty straightforward to make. All the flowers were made using different sizes and styles of plunger cutters and stuck onto the cake with a little royal icing. I was excited to finally be able to use my butterfly plunger cutters too. They've been sitting around in the my cake tool box, still in their original packaging!

Since I couldn't find a nice no. 1 candle which matched the design of the cake, I cut out a piece of fondant to cover a regular no. 1 candle, and made it a little more fancy with a few pretty flowers! Genius, right?

The cake was finished off by adding the birthday girl's name in fancy font on top of the cake, and arranging the edible icing image bunting & butterflies on the front of the cake. I love how clean and dainty this cake looked!

All the desserts and cake were featured on this lovely dessert table, styled by One and Only Gallery. I absolutely love the fancy pink rose textured table cloth! All the shades of pink, pretty flowers and appropriate pops of colour from the dainty butterflies gave this dreamy table the perfect romantic and feminine feel, exactly what a Cath Kidston-inspired dessert table should be!
