Last week I did a Minnie Mouse cake and some cookies for a little girl's school birthday. Now, it's her brother's turn to celebrate his birthday...with a Mickey Mouse cake and some cookies! Guess the mummy wanted to coordinate her kids' birthdays with similar themes :)

The cake is four layers of vanilla butter cake, dyed in blue ombré style. The cake was filled with vanilla Swiss meringue buttercream, and frosted with the same buttercream, but dyed red. This is one vibrantly-coloured cake! Now, I warned the mummy that red buttercream stains, after the lesson learned with this Mickey smash cake!

To decorate the cake, there were a pair of black fondant circles for the ears, fondant yellow shoes and fondant white buttons (woo! I remembered to put the buttons this time. ha!). The birthday boy's name was placed on top of the cake.

So, with the fondant ears on the cake, it was over 7" tall, and the cake box was only 4" tall. It was raining outside and I didn't want to leave the cake exposed. Solution? Plastic wrap! Sure, it didn't look all that pretty, but it kept the cake nice and dry.

To go with the cake, I also made some Mickey cookies, decorated with fondant. The cookies were individually packaged in cellophane bags, and tied off with a custom-designed Thank You tag. These little cookie bags made the perfect gifts for the birthday boy to giveaway to his classmates to take home.

If you look closely at the custom-designed gift tag, you'll see my favourite part... Mickey's little hand holding up three fingers! Happy 3rd Birthday, Ewayne!
