Ever After High Macarons, Cookies & Cupcakes

These Ever After High-themed desserts were for a young lady celebrating her 10th birthday. Again Ever After High is one of those new fashion doll series' that I'm not familiar with. They're like Barbies, except each character is the daughter of a fairy tale character. Working with a colour palette of black, dark purple, deep pink and gold, I got to make macarons, cookies and cupcakes for this birthday celebration.

smoked salted caramel macarons

Since the logo for Ever After High is a heart locket, I made dark purple heart-shaped macarons. I did up an easy heart template using PowerPoint and used that as a guide to pipe the hearts. It's so much easier to make hearts with a template! The last time I tried to free-hand pipe hearts, they didn't turn out so good.

I also made some pink macarons to contrast. The macarons were filled with smoked salted caramel and dark chocolate ganache. And, just for fun, because I had a tiny bit of purple macaron batter left, I played around with piping a swirly "S" macaron. Not bad right?

The sugar cookies were decorated with pink and purple fondant, accented with a funky swirly "S" and a gold heart. I used gold disco dust to get the heart to shine. This glitter just gets everywhere!

It's hard to see from the pics, but the purple fondant actually has a marbled swirly effect, achieved by mixing two shades of purple fondant together. The pink fondant has a funky cloud swirly pattern embossed onto it as well.

The cupcakes were red velvet cupcakes, frosted with cream cheese flavoured Swiss meringue buttercream, and strawberry cupcakes, frosted with strawberry Swiss meringue buttercream.

The red velvet cupcakes were decorated with white, pink and red mini heart sprinkles and a red fondant heart cut-out in the middle.

The strawberry cupcakes were topped with edible printed images of the Ever After High log and a few characters, like Apple White, Raven Queen, Mad Hatter & Ashlynn Emma.

I stuck the edible images on some fondant so that they wouldn't flop over on the frosting. As the edible image absorbs the moisture in the frosting, it softens and loses structure, so it needs either fondant or chocolate backing to keep its shape.

The macarons, cookies and cupcakes completed this glam dessert table styled by My Sweet Secrets. I love the deep purples, pinks and golds used in the set up! Once again, I love the white picture frame with fancy purple glitter paper underneath the glass to use as a plate for the cookies! Makes the cookies look so glitzy and glamourous!

The glittery heart and crown cutouts to top the macarons and cupcakes were a nice detail to fancify the desserts. I just love sparkles. Hope the birthday girl and her guets loved the purples, pinks and gold colours and the tasty treats on her dessert table! Happy sweet 10th Birthday, Sofia!
