Paris-themed cakes and cookie pops |
The cakes are 5" vanilla butter cakes, with each of the 8 layers dyed in 8 rainbow colours! The cakes are frosted and filled with vanilla Swiss meringue buttercream. Too bad that these lovely colours would be hidden under a fondant layer, because I think naked rainbow cakes look so cool!

I invested in a couple of silicone moulds for the Eiffel towers on the cakes and cookie pops. The moulds are straight-forward to use. Just push in the fondant, remove the excess, and then gently bend the mould to peel the mould away from the fondant (not the other way around or your tower will lose its shape!)

I also made a few swirly fondant roses, like the ones on this cake, in different shades of pink and purple to accent the cake, and added on a few red hearts since Paris is the city of love.

The most challenging part of all these cakes was the fondant lettering. Black fondant is super sticky, and even though I rolled the fondant thin and let it dry a little before pressing the tappits letter cutters into it, the fondant just kept sticking in the cutter! Super frustrating.
I think I accidentally cracked one of my tappits cutters because of frustrated, aggressive tapping on the counter while trying to get the letters out! Argh! But I finally managed to make all the letters I needed to spell out the messages on the cake requested by the girls' aunt! Phew.
For a more elegant look, I covered the cake boards in black fondant and added a black fondant ribbon to border the bottom of the cakes. I also added a few sugar pearls to accent the cake.
The cookie pops are decorated to match the style of the cakes, with everything on a smaller scale! The mini Eiffel towers are so cute.

The cookie pops were individually bagged in cellophane to keep them fresh, as they were going to be used as giveaways to the party guests.

I hope the two sweet girls enjoyed their Paris-themed birthday cakes and cookies! Happy birthday, Adeline & Jacqueline!
