Tayo Bus Cake

Even though Tayo isn't showing on TV, he's still a very popular character for kids' birthday celebrations! Here's a Tayo cake for a l'il guy celebrating his 3rd birthday at school. It's one of the more popular designs because nowadays, I find many people shying away from fondant-covered cakes. This one is finished in buttercream, but the details can really only be made using fondant.

Tayo Bus Cake

The cake is a vanilla butter cake with vanilla swiss meringue buttercream filling and finished in blue buttercream. Getting those edges nice and sharp, with a smooth top takes quite a bit of practice! I piped the green buttercream grass border with piping nozzle no. 233.

To decorate the cake, I made fondant cutouts of Tayo's iconic bus station, some clouds, trees and name plaques. The black stripes and the clock tower face were drawn on using edible ink markers.

Hello, Tayo!
pop-up balloons

A sculpted fondant Tayo bus topped the cake, along with some "floating" balloons. I loved making all the little details on Tayo. The number 120 on the front was written with royal icing.

Happy 3rd Birthday, Alphonsus
