Floral Cupcakes

Fancy flowers aren't usually my style. But, when I was asked to make some dainty floral cupcakes as Randstad's corporate gifts for their clients' administrative professionals, I happily obliged. After all, it was good practice, and I learned that April 25th is Administrative Professionals Day!

The cupcakes were a dozen each of chocolate, lemon and red velvet cupcakes, with a swirl of Swiss meringue buttercream dyed a hint of yellow.

I thought that making the roses would be easy cuz I had bought an FMM Easiest Rose Cutter last Christmas but never had the opportunity to use it. You know how when you need something, it seems to go missing and no matter how hard you look, you can't find it?? Well, this was one of those times, and the cutter was nowhere to be found!

So, I had to make the roses the old fashioned way, by cutting individual circles out of fondant and layering them together, one petal at a time. The daisies and plum flowers were much more straightforward to make, just using a plunger cutter. I got the petals on the daisies to curl inward by drawing a line towards the middle using a veiner tool.

To add a bit of colour to the cupcakes, I added some fondant leaves, using moss green to get this shade, cut using a leaf plunger cutter. I dried the leaves on a fondant flower shaping foam pad so that they dried with a bit of a curve instead of completely flat.

The cupcakes turned out really sweet and pretty, the perfect gift for some lucky corporate clients! I'm so glad to have brought smile to the faces of this lovely bunch of administrative professionals!
