Here's a "naked" rainbow cake topped with a cute teddy bear for a little guy celebrating his 2nd birthday at school. Can't believe how fast time has gone cuz it seems like just a little while ago that I made this nautical birthday cake for his first birthday!

"Bear" Naked Rainbow Cake |
Naked cakes are great cuz they show all the pretty rainbow coloured cake layers. Plus, it minimises the amount of cream and are a lower-calorie option :P Let's get real though. Cake is a dessert and eating an extra spoonful of frosting isn't gonna add an inch to your waistline. Haha. Coincidentally, I just watched an episode of Chef's Table on Netflix, which features Milk Bar founder Christina Tosi. Her philosophy is always to leave cakes unfrosted on the outside (aka Naked!) so that all the gorgeous layers and fillings can be seen! "...the delicious, deep, dense soulful elements in the layer cake. Why would I hide them behind frosting?!" I feel ya, Christina! I have yet to try a Milk Bar cake creation, but it will by my first stop next time I'm in NYC!
So this cake is made up of 6 rainbow-coloured layers of vanilla butter cake, filled with freshly whipped chantilly cream and lots of juicy chopped strawberries! Definitely a lighter flavour compared with the ever-popular devil's food cake.

hi there, Teddy |
Topping the cake is a cute little teddy bear, holding up a blue balloon. I got his fur to look "furry" by scoring the surface of the fondant with a no. 233 grass piping tip.

colourful rainbow cake |
I love the straightforward and colourful design, finished with standing fondant letters and a rainbow Happy Birthday message.
