TMNT cake

Here's a TMNT cake for the eldest of three boys, celebrating his 6th birthday this year. There's always something about boys and superheroes, cuz last year, I made a Justice League cake for him, and a Batman cake for his brother! This is only the 2nd time I've made something TMNT related, the first being these TMNT cookies last year!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Cake

The cake is three layers of red velvet cake, filled with tangy cream cheese Swiss meringue buttercream. The cake is wrapped in green fondant, with a cobblestone impression pattern to make it more "turtle-y" and bordered with a silhouette of city buildings. As usual, I was imagining little tiny people living in the buildings while I was cutting them out. I chose blue for the name cuz the birthday kid's fave Turtle is Leonardo.

pizza, anyone?

But the most fun I had in making this cake was decorating the cake board to look like a pizza! After all, the Ninja Turtle's fave food is pizza! First I covered the base in red fondant, rolled a long light brown coloured fondant snake for the border, making sure to add indents like an actual pizza crust, and then topped it with pepperoni slices, olives and green peppers! I dusted the crust with some cocoa powder to give it a little shading. The "melted cheese" was just royal icing, drizzled all over the top! Michelangelo would be all over this thing!

the Turtles climbed outta this manhole

To top the cake, I made a little manhole cover, and arranged the super cute TMNT toys around it, provided by the birthday boy's mummy. Love how it turned out!
