Star Wars Cake and Dessert Table

Star Wars is one of those epic movie sagas that is still going strong. With the original Star Wars released in 1977 to 9 movies later with the release of Solo later this year, it's no wonder that Star Wars has it's own special date reserved for to celebrate all things Star Wars! May the 4th be with you! Hahah  Anyway, this R2D2 cake and Star Wars-themed bakes were for a dessert table to celebrate a young padawan's 1st birthday!

R2D2 Star Wars Cake

The cake is made up of 2-tiers of the ever-popular devil's food cake, filled with whipped dark chocolate ganache. R2D2's head was baked up in a half-ball pan and an extra 6" round, which eliminated the need for carving.

After covering it in white fondant, the whole thing was painted in silver using Rolkem Supers silver, mixed with a little vodka. The fondant details were added while the silver coating was still tacky. I let the little tube piece dry unattached until it was stiff enough to be stuck onto the cake without drooping.

The bottom tier is simply draped in blue fondant (love Massa Ticino!) and decorated with star cutouts. I temporarily had Smurf hands to get it this nice shade of royal blue though! I cut the Star Wars-font birthday boy's name and age out of fondant using an Xacto knife.

The sugar cookies were decorated with fondant cutouts of Yoda, Darth Vader, Chewbacca and C3PO, using Star Wars plunger cutters. The "stars" effect behind the characters was achieved by flicking the bristles of a paintbrush dipped in a little white food colouring, onto the blue fondant. My fave cookie of this set is shiny, gold C3PO!

The cupcakes were vanilla and chocolate, frosted with Swiss meringue buttercream swirls and decorated with nonpareils in Star Wars colours and topped with paper toppers from One and Only Gallery

I also made blue and white red velvet cake pops and dark chocolate and smoked salted caramel macarons to round off the Star Wars-themed desserts.

The R2D2 cake and Star Wars desserts went on this cool Star Wars-themed dessert table, styled by One and Only Gallery. The party was pretty epic, with Stormtrooper airwalker balloons, light sabers, a bouncy castle, mini ball pit, motorised ride-on cars, face-painting and a buffet spread at FIVE Square. All the little guests (and some big guests!) came in their best Star Wars costumes!
