Sprinkles Cake! |
For a little boy's 2nd birthday celebration at school, I made an 8" devil's food cake, filled with whipped dark chocolate ganache, frosted with vanilla Swiss meringue buttercream and completely covered in sprinkles!
I love making sprinkle cakes. It is still really important to have an evenly frosted cake with sharp edges though, so that when you do cover the entire thing with sprinkles, the cake is a nice even shape, with straight edges.
Covering the cake with nonpareils is a messy thing, so make sure you have a big tray with a high lip to catch all the sprinkles that don't stick on the cake! I used a sheet pan which was too shallow and accidentally got sprinkles all over the floor. Apparently sprinkles make good foot reflexology rocks :P

To top the cake, I got a fancy paper topper, cut out of glitter red paper (red is the birthday boy's fave colour) from the folks at CircusSG. I love all their custom-made paper toppers, which come in a variety of designs, fonts and themes!

I got a bit lost looking for the school, which is unusually located in the middle of a housing complex, but I found it eventually, and the birthday boy got his cake! Happy 2nd Birthday, Aryan!
