Pink Nautical Tsum Tsum Cake

I love the versatility of the Tsum Tsum theme. These super cute sausage-shaped familiar characters are great on their own, but can be stepped up a notch by combining them with classic themes like circus, rainbow or even nautical! The nautical/sailor theme is usually associated with a boy, but for this event, we've paired traditional navy and white with, pink, making Nautical Tsum Tsum the perfect theme for a little girl's first birthday celebration!

For the event, I got to make the birthday cake, cookies, macarons, cupcakes and cake pops. Let's start with the cake, which is two tiers of refreshing orange-chocolate chunk cake, filled with layers of whipped dark chocolate ganache.

The cake is topped with a large nautical Minnie Tsum Tsum, made out of Rice Krispie treats and fondant. I used royal icing to draw the stripes and anchor on her sailor hat.

I wanted to include all the Tsum Tsum characters that appear on the party backdrop designed by One and Only Gallery, so I made 2D fondant faces of Piglet, Daisy, Dumbo, Eeyore, Pooh & Chip, all wearing sailor hats, to border the bottom tier of the cake.

To add more nautical touches, I also freehand-cut fondant cutouts of an anchor and a ship's steering wheel. The life preservers, anchors and the braided rope border complete the overall nautical look of the cake.

It is super tricky to get the stripes on straight on a cake, but I'm glad that it is more or less there, thanks to the help of a fondant extruder to make stripes of an even width. Love how this cake turned out.

The nautical Tsum Tsum sugar cookies match the design of the cake. They were quite time consuming to make because of all the colours and the little cutout details! I used royal icing to draw the little anchors on their sailor hats.

The pink and blue macarons were filled with smoked salted caramel and dark chocolate ganache, respectively. I am so happy that I finally got my oven temperature right so that the royal blue stayed nice and bright after baking! Previously  my oven had been too hot and the blue would always somehow turn greenish!

All of the pink and blue desserts and birthday cake went on this awesome Nautical Tsum Tsum-themed dessert table, styled by One and Only Gallery! I love the little boat display cases that house the red velvet and lemon cupcakes!
