Dino Macaron Tower Cake

Do you remember my friend's Halloween baby's 1st birthday cake last year? Well, time does really fly, cuz that little Halloween baby is now two years old! And he's really into dinosaurs these days (his fave is the T-Rex), so my friend asked if I could make a dino-themed macaron tower cake for him.

I haven't made a full-blown macaron tower before. You know, the kind where the macarons are stuck onto a styrofoam base and everything. The only macaron towers I've made are those where the macarons are placed on tiered trays like this Halloween macaron tower I did for Connor's birthday last year.

So, once again, I got the help of Milleaville to make the Dinosaur macarons into a macaron tower, like we've done on many collaborations for macaron tower cakes. For the cake, I made an 8" devil's food cake, with layers of decadent whipped dark chocolate ganache filling.

The cake is frosted in a nice shade of sky blue, with a green buttercream grass border, piped on with nozzle no. 233, with the birthday boy's name spelled out front and centre with yellow fondant.

At this point, I could've called the cake finished and left it as is, since my friend was gonna decorate the sides with some dinosaur macarons. But I felt like it was a little plain, so I went in and added a few buttercream trees. For the tree trunks, I used chocolate buttercream, piped used round nozzle no. 8. For the big leaves, I used green buttercream and leaf tip no. 67. And there we go, muuuuch better with the trees.

I added wooden dowels in the cake to support the 6" macaron tower that would be sitting on top, giving Connor's mummy instructions that all she has to do is place the dino macaron tower on top of the cake at the school and place a few loose dino macarons around the side of the cake

The dinosaur macarons by Milleaville are too cute! Not scary or fierce at all, since it is for a 2 year old's birthday celebration! Love how the happy colours brighten up the cake. My friend was very happy with the cake and little Connor couldn't take his eyes off the dinosaurs! Happy 2nd birthday, big boy Connor!

Happy 2nd Birthday, Connor!
