Jake & the Neverland Pirates Cake

I guess I should correct the title of this post to Captain Jake & the Neverland Pirates Cake, since our dear friend Jake has been recently promoted! Haaa. My kids were watching Disney Junior the other day and they were excited to tell me about the "new Jake cartoon!" I watched the opening sequence and was like, that's not a new cartoon. That's just Jake & the Neverland Pirates! I was immediately corrected with excited shouting. "No mom! Listen to the song! It's Captain Jake now!" ooooh, my mistake! Hahaha.

Anyway I got to make this cake for eldest boy of one of my good friends. She just wanted a simple cake covered in blue buttercream cuz she wanted to put the toy toppers on top. Captain Jake is her son's new favourite cartoon! Sorry Baymax!

The cake is the ever-popular Devil's food cake, filled with whipped dark chocolate ganache and frosted with vanilla Swiss meringue buttercream. I added some blue "waves" to border the cake, and had the birthday boy's name in big fondant letters at the front of the cake.

Make a wish!

I put crushed digestive biscuits on top for the "sand" and placed Captain Jake and all his pirate friends on top of the cake! Simple, and the birthday boy loved it! The cake was perfect for the pool party celebration.

slices of yummy Devil's food cake!

The one thing about all this blue buttercream, though, is that it will definitely stain your mouth and tongue blue! The kids didn't seem to mind though! Hhahah. Happy 4th Birthday, big boy Ethan!

what colour is your tongue?
