Elvis-themed rockstar goodies! |
The microphone cake pops are chocolate cake balls, dipped in black candy melts and rolled in silver sprinkles. The base of the microphone is a waffle cone which was cut down to mini-size and then dipped in black candy melts, accented with gold fondant buttons. Do check out my cake pop basics page for details on how to make cake pops!

To display the microphone cake pops, I constructed a stand made out of a large egg carton, styrofoam, red card paper and some ribbon. I poked the holes in with a wooden chopstick. I guess I'm not a crafty person cuz the stand itself took me almost an hour to make!

Fondant guitar toppers were made for the cupcakes, using a simple silicone mould. Actually, using a silicone mould is not as easy as one would think! There's a special technique to get just the right amount of fondant in the right colour in the mould, and make sure that it's pressed properly to pick up all the details!

The sugar cookies were decorated in fondant to look like vinyl records. In hindsight, I should have lightly dented circles on the black part of the cookies to give them that extra detail! The cookies were individually packed in cellophane bags and tied off with red and gold twisty-ties.

Here's how Sugarena displayed the edible goodies on the rockin' Elvis dessert table at the birthday party!! And what a fantastic table it was! I love the custom display labels and the actual vinyl record that was used to display the cupcakes! *These images are courtesy of Sugarena.
