Toilet Paper Roll Cake

This cake has been a long time coming. My close friends associate me with the bathroom because of the many tales of "misfortune" in there that I've shared. (will not share any stories here...haaa!) I'm surprised no one has thought to get me this cake yet for my birthday!

Anyway, my friend was celebrating her 30th birthday and she had the hilarious idea to have a toilet paper roll cake. Whaaat?! That's right, people. Instead of "Happy 30th Birthday", it's "Wiping away another year..." and "Holy Crap! I'm Old!"

The toilet paper roll and the square cake underneath are both made of Devil's chocolate food cake, filled with whipped dark chocolate ganache and iced with more dark chocolate ganache. Chocolate lover's heaven, I tell you.

To make the toilet paper, just cut a circle out of fondant & gently indent with many circles of decreasing diameter. Then, roll out a longer strip of fondant to wrap around the cylindrical cake, making sure to thinly roll the piece that's hanging off so that it looks like actual toilet paper. The score marks were made using a pie cutter because I couldn't find my fondant quilting tool. The small circle of dark chocolate fondant in the middle is the "cardboard" roll that the toilet paper is rolled around.

I posted this pic of a side-by-side actual toilet roll with the cake on the FB "Baking's Corner" page and I can't believe it got over 600 likes!! Hahah. My sister thought I was trying to do a comparison between 2-ply and 3-ply tissue paper!

I hope the birthday girl has a super osome birthday celebration! Another year flushed away! Haaa! (It's better than "End of the Roll" right??)

Update:
The birthday girl sent me this pic of the aftermath. She captioned it "Here's the toilet roll soiled in poop". Haaa! She definitely has a sense of humour!
