Frozen Science Beaker Cake

So the birthday girl who had these Science-themed cupcakes for her school birthday celebration also wanted a cake for her party with her friends, except it would be a Frozen Science-themed birthday party! Yes, you got it right, Disney's Frozen!! I had to ask to be sure too.

I thought it would be cool to do a 3D beaker cake which Elsa was "freezing"! The cake is a vanilla cake with one layer dyed turquoise (birthday girl's fave colour) and the other layer white, dotted with purple cake balls as a surprise inside! It's gonna look cool when the cake is cut. I sure hope her mom sends me a picture after! The cake is filled and frosted with vanilla buttercream.

To make the neck of the beaker, I used cereal treats shaped into a long cylinder, with a chopstick running through the middle to support it on the cake. Next time, I will carve down the cereal treats so that it doesn't look so lumpy after covering with fondant. I did dirty ice the whole thing in buttercream but the neck still came out lumpy.

I really wanted to use dry ice to have a neat smoking effect coming from the top of the beaker, but I have no idea where to buy small quantities. So, instead, I used some white cotton candy to mimic "mad frothing."

I love the "freezing" pose that the Elsa figurine has. I bought the Elsa Infinity figurine off of eBay because the other Elsa figurines in the stores had her in a different pose, holding a red apple or something. Didn't think that would look too nice.

Happy 8th Birthday, Kayl!
