TMNT Cookie Pops

Because little Leroy couldn't decided whether to have Superheroes or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT) for his birthday theme, the lucky little guy got both! In addition to the TMNT Birthday CakeI also got to make TMNT cookie pops to go in the goodie bags for Leroy's classmates.

TMNT Cookie Pops

The cookies are vanilla sugar cookies, with a hint of lemon. To make them cookie pops instead of regular cookies, insert a lollipop stick into the cookies with a twisting motion (rather than just shoving the stick straight in) so that the cookies don't get misshapen. Stick the cookies in the freezer. Once they're solid, flip them over and add more cookie dough on top if the lollipop stick has created a crack in the dough. Flip the cookies over again and bake as usual.

Some of the cookies had a yellow "brick" background, and some had a yellow "wood grain" background both of which were indented onto the fondant using an impression mat.

hand-cut Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Each Turtle was hand cut out of fondant using an Xacto knife because I didn't have a TMNT cookie cutter. It took some time to cut out their masks and make their eyeballs & mouths! The black outline with edible marker really does a lot to make the cartoon turtle pop. I was tempted to be lazy and leave them un-outlined, but I probably wouldn't be able to sleep knowing that the black outline makes them look so much better.

the difference that a black outline makes
cookies looking a little flat with no outline...
much better with a black outline!

The "pizza" pops were really fun to make! I literally used a cheese grater to grate some white fondant on the pizzas, and then used some royal icing for the "melted cheese"! And what pizza is complete without some olives, green peppers and pepperoni slices?

pizza pops, the cookie kind!

Since these cookie pops were going in the party goodie bags, they were individually bagged and sealed with a twisty-tie (you know how I'm a ribbon-tying noob).

ready for the goodie bags

The birthday boy's mummy picked up these babies the night before the birthday celebration at school so she could pack them into the goodie bags. Can't wait to see it all come together.
