A friend and very supportive repeat customer asked me to make a simple purple buttercream cake for her mummy, who was turning 61 this year. I was lucky enough to get the opportunity to make her 60th birthday cupcake bouquet cake last year and am so happy that I got to play a part in her birthday celebration again this year!
I wanted to do something simple, but still a little fancy. The cake is a three-layer vanilla butter cake, with the layers dyed a pink ombré, cuz I wanted to surprise the birthday girl.
The cake was decorated with purple ombre buttercream rose swirls (in 10 shades of purple!), piped out using a small open star piping nozzle.
I added a single ombre buttercream rose piped out using nozzle no. 104 on top of the cake for a little decoration. Looks like I need a little practice on piping buttercream flowers because this one came out rather flat.

To add a little fancy to the cake, I hand-crafted a paper bunting topper, using two paper straws, some gold string, scrapbook paper cut into triangles and letter stickers. I like how the purple cake is brightened up by the pop of green.

Here are a couple pics courtesy of my friend. That's her son digging into the cake! Happy 60th Birthday, Mo-Mo!
