Peppa Pig Cookies

These Peppa Pig cookies were for a baby shower for a little girl. I've done Peppa Pig cookies on a couple of occasions, but this is the first time it would be for a baby shower! I guess most baby showers for little girls have pink as the colour scheme and hey, Peppa Pig is pink too!

The cookies are a vanilla sugar cookies with a hint of lemon. I'm really happy that I've finally managed to tweak the recipe to the point that the cookies don't spread very much at all during baking. Now, to work on getting the cookies to bake up with a smoother surface...

To decorate the cookies, I used fondant. I prefer fondant over royal icing because I haven't practiced with royal icing enough to the point where I can get each decorated cookie to be (almost) exactly the same!

Anyway, cutting a 2D Peppa Pig out of fondant is pretty straightforward. There are Peppa Pig full-set cutters available for sale, but why spend the money for that when you can achieve the same result using cake decorating tools you probably already have?

I use a Peppa Pig shaped cookie cutter (bought it off of eBay UK), a round cutter and a few different sizes of round piping nozzles. The round cutter is used to indent Peppa's nose. Her blush mark is cut out using the back of a piping tip. Her eyes and nostrils were cut out using the different round piping nozzles. Her mouth is just a fondant snake, curved with the help of a piping nozzle.

Each cookie was bagged individually in cellophane and tied off with a pretty ribbon. I usually just use twisty-ties because I'm not really good at tying ribbons! But I took the opportunity here to practice, and the ribbons really do look much better than twisty-ties. Took me five times longer to tie off each bag though.

Here are a few pics from the party that the baby girl's mummy generously shared. All the super cute paper cut-outs and the custom-wrapped chocolate bars & Pringles were done by Sugarena. I especially love the Peppa Pig personalized baby onsie bunting!

Welcome, baby Clara!
