Baby Avengers Cake

To go with the Baby Avengers cookie pops in the goodie bags, I got to make a Baby Avengers cake! The birthday boy's mummy wanted bright colours and character figurines on the cake. She loves rainbow cake, and so both cake tiers were 7-layer rainbow cakes!

Baby Avengers Cake

Each rainbow cake layer was made of vanilla butter cake, filled with yummy vanilla Swiss meringue buttercream.

For the bottom tier, I wanted to decorate it with a skyscraper silhouette scene, just like this Superhero cake. But because the cake is for a 1st birthday, it should be colourful and bright! So I did the buildings in 4 different colours. Blacks & greys for the "background" buildings, and bright blues and greens for the buildings at the front. I just used a knife to cut out random sizes and shapes for the buildings. To make things come alive, I added yellow windows. It's fun to imagine people living in the buildings.

I indented a brick pattern onto the fondant-covered cake board as well, and added "Happy Birthday" wording moulded out of red fondant using a silicone mould.

For the top tier, I covered in light blue fondant and decorated it with white star cut-outs. I put letters of the birthday boy's name on stars too to make them pop too.

lots of stars on the cake!

Now for the fun part: the figurines! I tried to capture the different features of each character, and then make them cute, since they were their baby versions. Baby Hulk has this kind of funny "indifferent" expression that I didn't intentionally give him. He just turned out that way! PS, I cut out stars out of black fondant and used that for Baby Hulk's hair!

Baby Iron Man's arc reactor was a little difficult to cut out of fondant, especially the fine lines in the middle. I ended up cutting a small fondant circle, and then using a round piping to cut bits of fondant off, all the way around the circle! For his face, I cut a heart out using a cookie cutter and then added little eyes and a smile.

cute baby Iron Man!

Baby Captain America ended up with pretty chunky arms! But I love the how his helmet turned out, with the hand-cut "A" and the wings. Of course, I had to make his signature red, white and blue shield too.

My fave character was Thor! He's really cute with the baby buttons, helmet, red cape and even a little pacifier. I made Mjölnir too (Thor's hammer), making sure to put grooves in the handle.

love Thor's cape!

The party was held at an interesting restaurant called EatPlayLove Café. It's got really cool retro decor inside, and has lots of activities for the kids to do, like a little craft corner. They sell old school snacks and little toys too. It's the perfect venue for a kid's birthday party since they are a one stop shop.

Baby Avengers Dessert Table*

Hulk & Iron Man cake toppers

The cake went on this fun, colourful dessert table, set up by the café. After arranging the baby Hulk, Iron Man, Thor & Captain America figurines, I finished the cake off by adding pop-out yellow fondant stars and a number 1 candle on top. The cake looked great, as did all the others sweets on the dessert table! Wishing superhero baby Isaac a fun-tastic 1st birthday!

Happy 1st birthday, superhero Isaac!
