Owl & Elephant Cake Pops

I also got to make owl and elephant cake pops to give away to her classmates, in addition to Joyia's Frozen birthday cake. Pink owls for the girls and blue and grey elephants for the boys. I didn't make elephant-shaped cake pops this time around because Joyia's mummy thought that they would be too cute to eat!

Owl & Elephant Cake Pops

These cake pops are made of red velvet cake, crumbled and swirled with vanilla Swiss meringue buttercream. The owls are dipped in strawberry chocolate and the elephants are dipped in white chocolate.

For the owls, I rolled the cake balls into slightly oval shapes and then froze them. To get the "ears", I stuck on some mini white chocolate chips using some melted chocolate and let that harden before dipping the entire cake pop in chocolate. The owls beak, eyes and wings are made of fondant, as is the white bow, which I moulded using my ribbon silicone mold.

For the fondant elephants, I used a small elephant cookie cutter which I found at a Japanese housewares store. I had to trip the back of the elephant a bit using a round circle cutter, since it was slightly too big for the cake ball. I used a circle of blue fondant for his ears and a black edible ink food marker to dot his eye on.

I love how these babies turned out! The pink and blue stripey paper straws just add to the drama and "carnival" feel of these cake pops! I wrapped them in cellophane to keep them fresh, since they were to be given away as party favours. I think the birthday girl really enjoyed them! Just look at that big smile on her face. Happy birthday, Joyia!
