Zombie Cake Pops

I know we are still 4 months away from Halloween, but apparently, zombies-themed birthday parties are good to have anytime of year! This set of zombie cake pops was for a young lady's birthday celebration. Pretty cool theme to have right?

The cake pops are chocolate cake, crumbled and swirled with vanilla Swiss meringue buttercream, and then dipped into melted white chocolate. I used Wilton candy eyeballs for the zombies' eyes, adding "blood" with edible food pens.

The details on the zombie's faces were drawn on with edible food pens too. I used some dark chocolate, dyed black, for the zombie's hair, piping it on with a tipless piping bag. You gotta make sure that the chocolate is on the cool side, and not warm and melty, or else the hair will not stand up. White nonpareils sprinkles were used for the zombies' teeth.

I added a light dusting of cocoa powder on the zombies, to make them look all dirty and roughed up, though these zombies have a much smoother skin complexion than those on The Walking Dead for sure!
