Christmas Cupcakes

These Christmas cupcakes were for an office party in a medical office that was located in a shopping mall. Why am I telling you were they were delivered to? Cuz that's the most exciting part of the story, which I'll elaborate on later on.

Christmas Cupcakes

But first, the cupcakes! So they were a mix of strawberry, red velvet and Valhrona chocolate cupcakes, decorated in Christmas style. First up, the strawberry cupcakes, with a simple buttercream rosette swirl, accented with a couple of holly leaves and berries (loving the Wilton Christmas sprinkles sets that my parents hauled over here in their luggage, amongst my other baking supplies!)

serious Christmas baking loot from Vancouver!!!

The red velvet cupcakes were decorated like Christmas wreaths, using a star piping tip for the green buttercream, a round nozzle for the bow and decorated with some nonpareils in Chrismas colours (which I scored from Wellington, NZ last Christmas!)

festive plating!

The cutest design of the bunch was Rudolph! The chocolate cupcakes were frosted with a Valhrona chocolate Swiss meringue buttercream swirl, a couple of mini pretzels for the antlers, Wilton candy eyes for the eyes and a red almond m&m for the nose! Hello, Rudolph!

Hello, Rudolph!

Ok, so now for the exciting part. So I had to deliver all 5 dozen cupcakes to the medical building at a mall in the heart of the shopping district. Let's just say heading to the mall this close to Christmas is already insanity, let alone one in the middle of downtown. I literally had to wait in line for 20 minutes just to get into the parking lot. (& luckily, I found a spot to park in right away! Oh, did I mention that my car is also decked out with Rudolph antlers and a red nose? Hahaha yep, 'tis the season!

Anyway, bags of cupcakes in hands, I went up the escalator to get from the underground parking to shop level no prob. But then I had to go up another escalator to get to the level where the elevators were at to access the medical centre. In front of me, there was a family with 2 kids, who had loads of shopping bags with them, and holding up a stroller on the escalator. I mean, I used to bring my kids up on the stroller on the escalator too cuz the elevators are always so so busy and it takes forever to finally get in one, just to go up a couple of floors.

Anyway, when the family had gotten to the top, I guess the wheels of the stroller got caught in the wrong position and the entire thing tipped over sideways. The kids were crying, shopping bags were everywhere, and it was becoming one gigantic pile up of people cuz there was nowhere for everyone to go, with it being a narrow exit and nobody had pressed the emergency stop button yet.

I was flying into a panic cuz I had bags of cupcake boxes in both hands and I didn't want to end up in the dog pile with a bunch of smashed cupcakes!! Gosh, in my panic I actually turned around and started walking DOWN the escalator instead!! (you know I only had the safety of the cupcakes in mind, much as I really wanted to help those people!!) Thankfully, after a couple of steps down, someone had finally pressed the emergency stop button and everyone managed to stand up and brush themselves off. The kids were still crying but luckily, nobody was injured. PHEWWW. Holiday madness, indeed!!!

I'm glad to say the cupcakes reached the medical office safe and sound, and they were a hit with the staff!! What an exciting Christmas delivery !!
