Here's a giant cupcake smash cake made for a batman themed smash cake photoshoot. Baby Denzel's daddy is a huge Batman fan, so it's only natural that the little guy's 1st birthday would be Batman-themed!

Batman-themed smash cake photoshoot* |
Classic batman colours are black and yellow, but it would be a bit scary to have black in the cake, so I went with dark chocolate for the cupcake "wrapper" base, and tinted the fresh whipped cream frosting a nice bright yellow to go with the theme. It is a baby-friendly cake, meaning that it is both eggless and sugarless. But that also means that it is not "adult-palette"-friendly. (I really do not recommend that eggless and sugarless cakes be served to guests. Yes of course the whole thing is edible and safe to eat, it just doesn't taste like anything!)

Anyway, as with all smash cake photoshoots, I had to wake up bright and early for the cake collection. Apparently the best light for this kind of photoshoot is the soft sunlight in the early morning, and it's also because then it's not so hot out yet (damn the heat and humidity of the tropics!)

soo...whaddya want me to do with this?* |
These lovely pics were taken by the talented Cloudchew Photography. Baby Denzel doesn't look amused. He is giving the cake a "Paddington Bear hard stare". And apparently he ended up crying too! It really goes both ways with smash cake photoshoots. Either the baby hates the feeling of cream and has a meltdown, or the baby loves it and goes to town making a mess!

Batman has better things to do?* |
Best thing to do is just mess up the cake and blame it on the baby! Hahah. Can't wait to make Denzel's 1st birthday cake and desserts for next week!
