Garden Miffy Cake

Miffy is a little white cartoon rabbit from Dutch story books. I can't say that I'm familiar with the stories though. I've actually seen Miffy being used as a theme for both girls' and boys' birthdays, with bright primary colours and orange being the main colour scheme for boys. Of course, dressing Miffy up in a pink shirt and surrounding her with pastel colours is perfect for a little girl's first birthday celebration.

Garden Miffy Cake

This birthday cake is two tiers of chocolate sponge cake, filled with whipped dark chocolate ganache, and frosted with vanilla Swiss meringue buttercream. This is a nice, light cake, which isn't too sweet, and is well-received by kids and adults.

The cake was suppose to simply decorated, with a few flowers and sugar figurines of Miffy and her dog Snuffy, but when I saw the design for the backdrop which was going with the dessert table, I couldn't help but add in more details!

For the bottom tier, I cut white picket fencing and used a fondant border cutter for a fancier picket fence top. I added strips of brown fondant, embossed with a woodgrain pattern, behind the white fencing for contrast.

The top tier was frosted in sky blue buttercream, decorated with a 2D cutout modelled after Miffy's house, some clouds and a plaque with the birthday girl's name on it.

To top the cake, I made a pastel coloured rainbow (with colours matching the party backdrop), a handcrafted sugar Miffy figurine holding some balloons and a cute little Snuffy dog. I just loved his perky little tail!

To add more colour, I added little flowers and "grass" which was made using a short-cut trick of using daisy plunger cutters and cutting the shapes in half.

I also got to make pink and mint green macarons to match the cake for the dessert table. The macarons were filled with smoked salted caramel and dark chocolate ganache.

The Miffy cake & macarons went on this sweet dessert table, styled by the talented One and Only Gallery. The large cutouts and the white fencing really completes the overall look of the table, and the birthday cake matches so well with everything! Happy 1st Birthday, baby Aryssa!
