I had some leftover sugar cookie dough from the Minnie & Mickey cookies sitting around in the fridge and I really wanted to try out my
new cookie cutters. Since the kids were home early from school, making cookies
was the perfect afternoon activity to keep them busy.

Cookie Monster, Pooh, Tigger & Hello Kitty Cookies |
Of course, my daughter picked Hello Kitty first. Typical
girl! I rolled the chilled dough out on a piece of parchment and let the kids
cut out Hello Kitties, Winnie the Poohs, Tiggers and Cookie Monsters. Because
the cookie cutters were the “stamp” type, it was easy to add on the characters’
faces using the cookie cutter to indent the details onto the dough. I
transferred all the cutouts onto a Silpat mat and froze them solid (about 10
mins in the freezer) before baking them in the oven.

While the cookies were cooling, I worked on decorating the
fondant details. I cut shapes out of the fondant using the same cookie cutters,
and then lightly indented their faces on using the stamp. I used different
colours of fondant to add on the different details, each time using the cookie
stamp and then cutting appropriately using a sharp knife.

I brushed the back of each piece of fondant with a little
bit of water to attach them onto the cookie. After allowing the fondant cookies to dry
a little bit, I drew the finer details on the characters' faces
using Americolor food markers.

The kids were so excited to have helped made these cookies
that they refused to go to bed until they had one each! The cookies turned out
really cute! Can’t wait to make more cookies with the Oscar, Elmo and Ernie
cookie cutters too!
