Tsum Tsum Cupcakes

A couple of months ago, we happened to take the kids to Hougang Green Mall for dinner, and naturally, they were whining for dessert afterwards. Unfamiliar with the area, we explored the neighbourhood shops before stumbling upon a cool waffle place called Nit & Grit. Jillian, one of the owners, was so cool and fun to talk to, explaining how the waffle batter is made from scratch with buttermilk and fresh ingredients, and unlike the usual flat, pandan-scented waffle one gets from those small bakery shops.

Tsum Tsum Cupcakes!

We ordered the Oreo waffle and Milo Dinosaur waffle with marshmallows, and both were yummylicious! The kids loved how fluffy it was, and of course they enjoyed licking off the toppings! We also got to sample some of their uniquely flavoured ice pops! I think it would be such a fun item to have at the kids' birthday next year.  Aside from waffles & ice pops, they also offer ice cream and bubble tea! So, if you're in Hougang next time and looking for a quick dessert, pop on over to Nit & Grit and your tummy will thank you for it.

So, why the back story about this cool dessert place? Well, after chatting with Jillian, I shared that I make cakes and desserts for kids birthdays and stuff. And she shared my info with her sister, who's son's birthday was coming up! How's that for coincidental advertising? ;)  So, I got the opportunity to make these Tsum Tsum cupcakes for him.

30 different Tsum Tsum toppers!

The birthday boy's mummy happens to be an avid Tsum Tsum fan (as another aside, she happens to be really really good at the Tsum Tsum game, which I'm also addicted to. It is very very hard to beat her score on the leaderboard!!)

Anyway, she requested that each cupcake topper be a different Tsum Tsum character! Quite a challenge, but I'm so happy with how these little cuties turned out! It was painstaking work to cut out and make all the little details from fondant, including all the stitches on Jack Skellington's mouth!

Happy Terrific 2, Macarius!

I found out afterwards that Macarius' fave cartoon character is Mickey Mouse, and that his 1st birthday was in this theme. Luckily I put Mickey Tsum Tsum front and center of his birthday cupcakes this year! Happy 2nd Birthday, Macarius!
