I like naked cakes. That is, cakes that aren't covered in fondant or buttercream, or anything at all. The effect is rustic on a naked chocolate cake, and colourful & impressive on a naked rainbow cake.
Naked Rainbow Baymax Cake* |
For Ethan's birthday celebration at church, I got to make him a 5-layer naked rainbow cake, keeping it simple with an edible icing sheet image on top, designed by his mummy. I love how Baymax looks like he's glowing.

Vanilla Swiss meringue buttercream is sandwiched in between the five colourful layers of vanilla butter cake, making for a pretty tall, 5" naked rainbow cake. Ethan's mummy placed the edible image on top just before leaving for the celebration at church. I didn't want to put it on in advance since the cake would be stored in the fridge and I was afraid that condensation would form on the image and cause the colours to run once the cake was removed from the fridge, even though we were lucky with Ethan's other birthday cake.
Happy 3rd Birthday, Ethan!* |
Hope Ethan and all his church friends enjoyed a slice of this colourful birthday cake! Happy 3rd Birthday, Ethan!
