Little Twin Stars Cookies

These Little Twin Stars Cookies were for a 1st birthday celebration for a pair of twin girls. The Little Twin Stars are retro Sanrio characters, created in the same period as Hello Kitty and My Melody. I'm more familiar with Keroppi and Pochacco myself. When the girls' mummy asked if I could make these cookies, I said sure, I can do some of the boy ones and some of the girls ones. She said oh you mean Kiki and Lala? Ha, I didn't know that's what their names were.

I didn't want to make the cookies just that of Kiki and Lala's heads and go with a simpler, round cookie shape, because then you won't get the detail of Lala's longer hair and the little bit of hair they both have sticking out the sides of their head. As usual, I wanted to make life difficult for myself and include a bit of their bodies as well.

Anyway, I don't have a cookie cutter specifically for Kiki and Lala so I had to hand cut these from the sugar cookie dough using a very sharp knife. I'm glad that I finally tweaked my go-to sugar cookie recipe enough such that the cookies don't spread very much at all after baking.

The cookies are decorated with fondant. Again, I had to hand-cut the different colours of fondant and piece them back together like a puzzle, sticking them together with a little bit of water. I didn't want to layer the different colours of fondant on top of each other because then the cookies would be too sweet, and then they wouldn't be nice and flat.

Lala (the girl Twin Star!)

The most challenging part of these cookies were making the ruffly bangs for their hair. Their bangs are "scalloped" so I had to cut the scallop pattern on their hair, and then also cut the "reverse-scallop" pattern on their faces, and then make sure their hair fit nicely onto their faces, like puzzle pieces! Not sure if you get when I mean...ha. To finish the cookies, I drew on Kiki and Lala's faces using a black edible food ink marker.

Happy 1st Birthday, Chloe & Clara!

I love how the birthday girls' mummy displayed the cookies at the party! Such a nice cake plate, and a lovely Little Twin Stars porcelain figurine to accent the cookies. And there we have it, Little Twin Stars cookies to celebrate the twins' first birthday! Happy 1st birthday, Chloe and Clara!
