Lucky birthday boy Ethan had 3 birthday cakes this year, to celebrate his 3rd birthday - a strawberry Baymax cake, a naked rainbow cake, and now this one! Continuing with the Big Hero 6 theme, for his celebration at school, Ethan's mummy simply wanted an edible printed image on top of a round cake. She designed the cool print herself, as with the other cakes.

The cake is three layers of Devil's Food cake, filled with whipped dark chocolate ganache and frosted with vanilla Swiss meringue buttercream. I added a border of red m&m's to up the chocolate factor (as if there wasn't enough chocolatey goodness in this cake). I'm still working on getting a super smooth finish for buttercream cakes. As you can see from the pic, there are quite a few air bubbles trapped in the frosting. And since Swiss meringue buttercream is a non-crusting type of buttercream, one can't use the Viva paper towel method to smoothen it out. Must practice more!

As with Ethan's Baymax cake, I hand-cut his name out of fondant in Big Hero 6 font, and made a little fondant Megabot to add a bit more detail to the cake. Ethan's mummy finished the cake off by applying the edible printed image directly on top of the buttercream, and then topping it off with a toy Baymax figurine. Happy 3rd Birthday, Ethan! Thanks for letting me be a part of all your birthday celebrations this year :D
