While we were in the middle of dinner, my neighbour knocked on my door with his eldest boy. They came over to give us a Swiss Bake voucher to celebrate their new baby boy's 1st month. I had met them in the elevator a couple weeks ago and saw their new little dude. One month old already!
Usually, one can congratulate the couple by giving a red envelope (ang pao) for their baby, but of course, I wanted to say it with cake! Cupcakes, that is. I happened to have a couple of extra red velvet cupcakes leftover from a balloon-themed cake that I was working on. So after dinner, while waiting for a batch of Devil's Food Cake cupcakes to come out of the oven, I worked on a couple of 3D fondant figurines to top the red velvet cupcakes.
The simplest and baby-suitable figurines that I could think of were a sleeping baby and a teddy bear. The sleeping baby was made in the same way as the topper on this Welcome Baby cake, except I forgot to add the ears and nose because I was pressed for time! The teddy bear was made in a similar way as this polar bear topper. I added a "Happy 1st Month" banner, stamped out using a fondant letter stamper. Can't believe I managed to finish everything in under half an hour!
I let my kids stay up past their bedtime so that they could go over to our neighbour's place and give them the cupcakes and a red envelope for their new baby. Luckily they were still up! Happy 1st Month, new baby boy.
