Rainbow Cake Pops

Birthday boy Tyler was celebrating his 3rd birthday at school and his mummy wanted some cake pops instead of having a big cake for all the kids to share. Since there wasn't any particular theme, I suggested a rainbow of colours for the cake pops. I like that Tyler's mummy isn't fussy.

Rainbow Cake Pops

These rainbow cake pops were made of red velvet cake, crumbled and swirled in vanilla buttercream and then dipped in different colours of white chocolate, dyed using candy oil. Well, all the colours except the red ones, which I used powdered food colouring for. It is very important NOT to use gel or water-based food colouring as this will cause the chocolate to seize and become unuseable. For more tips on how to make cake pops, please check out my cake pop basics page

all ready for the party

Here's my fancy yet "useless" cake pop display stand/carrier. I don't really like the design of it. It is able to hold 37 cake pops, but once you put the lid on, you can't use the holes on the edge or the top, which only leaves you with holes enough for 24 cake pops. Also, you can only use 6" sticks and the cake pops must be round to get the maximum amount under the dome. Grrr. Don't know why I bought it in the first place!

Happy 3rd Birthday, Tyler!

Anyway, Tyler's mummy simply placed the rainbow cake pops in some mugs for the kids to grab and eat at the party. Genious in its simplicity right? I heard that there was even a magician that came to the school to put on a magic show and entertain Tyler and his classmates! So cool!
