Harry the Bunny mini cupcakes |
The mini cupcakes are red velvet, frosted with vanilla Swiss meringue buttercream. For the the fondant toppers, I decided on an assortment of Harry the Bunny, carrots, suns, clouds and daisy flowers. I think it's more interesting to have a few designs.

I printed out an image of Harry the Bunny and stuck it on some cardboard. I cut that out and used it as a guide to cut Harry the Bunnies out of fondant with an Xacto knife. Lots of careful cutting involved to make lots of little bunnies! I did the same thing for Harry's blue and red jumper, carefully cutting the shapes out of fondant.
For the background, I wanted to have a sky and some grass, so I cut circles of sky blue and green fondant out, cut them in half and then spliced them back together, blue for the sky and green for the grass. I know, I'm always making life more difficult for myself, but I just can't help but be detailed! I used edible food ink markers to draw on Harry's face, and I dotted some white food colouring on using a toothpick for the reflections in his eyes and for his teeth. I like adding reflections in the eyes because I think it makes it look more lifelike.
The carrots were so fun to make. Each carrot is individually made so no two are exactly alike. I took a small ball of fondant, rolled it into a cone shape, and then used a sharp knife to make indentations on the surface, like a real carrot. I used a small flower cutter for the green stems on top of the carrots.

The daisies were made using a daisy plunger cutter. I used a round piping tip to cut the yellow fondant centers for the daisies. The clouds were freehand cut out of white fondant. I used the back of a large piping tip to cut the centers out for the suns, and then added the thin yellow rays, which I freehand cut out of thinly rolled fondant.

I didn't place the toppers on the cupcakes until I got to the party venue, because I didn't want them sliding around in the box. All the cupcakes arrived safely and in one piece. I've had previous transport mishaps where U-turns, speed bumps and sudden braking have caused cupcakes to bounce around and get frosting smeared everywhere!! Not fun.
Birthday girl Vaedha's mummy was so happy with the cupcakes! She couldn't believe how detailed everything was and commented that I really managed to capture Harry the Bunny in mini cupcake form! I'm so happy that she and her guests enjoyed the cupcakes. Little Vaedha had such a big smile on her face when she saw them and recognized her favourite Harry the Bunny from BabyTV! Happy 1st Birthday, sweet Vaedha!
