Lion Guard Cake

So the title of this post isn't really accurate cuz the cake itself really isn't a Lion Guard cake. On its own, it's just a blue jungle-style cake, pretty much a blue buttercream-covered cake, dressed up with green fondant jungle leaves, flowers and bugs!

The cake is decadent devil's food cake, filled with whipped dark chocolate ganache, finished with vanilla Swiss meringue buttercream dyed sky blue.

fondant jungle leaves

The jungle leaves were free-hand cut out of fondant, using a knife to make notches in the leaves. Fun times making the grubs and lady bugs too. The rocks are just grey and brown fondant marbled together with white fondant and rolled into balls.

I actually intended for the front of the cake to be this side, with the open space between the leaves to put on Pumbaa or Timon macarons or something, though I really should've checked to makes sure that there were even going to be Pumbaa or Timon macarons!

back of the cake

So, that's the jungle cake. What makes this cake a Lion Guard cake, is Milleaville Macarons' awesome Lion Guard macaron tower!! If you're like Ono and have the keenest of sight, you can see just how detailed each character is! (I also made the fondant plaques that went on the macaron tower, using Tappits cutters for the letters).

Lion Guard macaron tower cake!

Anyway, the back of the cake became the front of the cake, and nobody cared cuz everyone was impressed with just how great the overall cake turned out to be, with the macaron tower on top!  Hey man, as long as the birthday boy and his guests were happy, I'm happy! Happy 6th birthday, Julian!
