Time flies. Babies don't stay babies! My little Cayleigh is already 2 years old! And talks non-stop. This girl will tell you exactly what she wants and how. Her new favourite cartoon character is Tinkerbell, so of course, we had to have a Tinkerbell party for her 2nd birthday. She had dressed up as a rainbow fairy last Halloween and it made for the perfect picture to use for the invitation card. Of course, upon finding out the theme, my mom just had to go and buy a fancy Tinkerbell dress from the Disney Store, complete with wings and light up wand and Fed-Ex it over here, stat!
I was lucky to score this 16" collectible Tinkerbell doll off of eBay for $15! Woohoo for auctions! Actually, I would have gotten another one for $6 but someone out bid me at the last minute and the item closed at $6.50. Darn! Since I was making a "barbie-doll" style cake for the party, I had to wrap Tinkerbell up in Saran Wrap so she wouldn't touch the cake and get dirty.
The cake is pretty tall! The bottom 3 layers are matcha green tea cake filled with cream cheese frosting. The top 3 layers are ube (purple taro) cake filled with macapuno (coconut sport) and vanilla Swiss meringue buttercream. The Tinkerbell party was purple and green themed, so I wanted to have the cake in the same colours.

To finish the cake, Tinkerbell's dress was decorated with fondant leaves and some purple daisies. At 16" tall, she's two-thirds the height of the birthday girl!
The kids absolutely could not keep their hands off of Tinkerbell! Thank goodness that fondant dries pretty solid and their little fingers didn't do any damage to her dress. After singing the Happy Birthday song, all the kids enjoyed a slice of the purple and green cake! There were also cake pop giveaways for the party. Chocolate cake pops, dipped in melted dark chocolate and rolled in green/purple sanding sugar.
Happy 2nd Birthday, Cayleigh! |
