Happy Mother's Day! |
The fondant accents were not difficult to make, but they do require advanced planning since they take at least overnight to completely dry out. Each of the curls in the bow are indivudual loops that have been attached to form a bow using royal icing. A tip for the ribbon's tails is to attach it to the cake at 2 points so that it doesn't just crack off if someone accidentally nudges the cake. The teal roses (woohoo! Teal is my new fave colour), are just strips of fondant that have been loosely rolled up to make roses with a whimsical feel. The purple strips on the bottom tier have been embossed using fondant rollers to give them an extra texture.
My mom was pretty happy with this cake. We ate it for dessert after brunch at Brown's Social House. Flowers and cake make for a pretty nice Mother's Day. Even my sister got me a bunch of flowers. And my aunt, knowing how much I love to bake, got me these cute nesting piggie measuring cups! :)
