Marzipan Cake

So our last dinner in Vancouver fell on TY's birthday. We had really yummy Indian buffet at Saffron Indian Cuisine in Burnaby. The food was good, though I was happy just to have naan, yogurt and mint chutney. 

TY's birthday cake was a banana hazelnut cake filled with banana French buttercream, covered with marzipan and decorated with a marzipan "fence" and marzipan flowers. Too bad I didn't take a picture of the cake from a different angle, or with a better camera! 

Interestingly, when making banana buttercream, it is a good idea to put a couple drops of yellow food colouring in the buttercream, because the banana in the buttercream oxidizes and causes the buttercream to go a bit brown. If you don't mind this, feel free to omit the food colouring :)
