Our friend's daughter was turning 4 years old and she was having an Alice in Wonderland-themed party! My friend actually wanted me to help make cupcakes for her, but with Gabi just a little over a month old, I didn't think I could find the time that needed to make the detailed fondant toppers for the cupcakes! Too bad, I would have loved to though!
Instead, I made cake pops. Easy, peasy. Bake a cake (in this case, it was brown sugar hazelnut cake) let it cool, crumble, swirl with frosting, shape and freeze. More details can be found on my cake pops basics page. Among the characters in Alice in Wonderland is the Queen of Hearts, and of course, her guards, which look like playing cards!

To make the Queen of Hearts Guards cake pops, the rectangular-shaped cake pops were dipped into melted white chocolate, then red m&m's were attached for the Guard's "hands" and "feet". Big heart sprinkles formed their suit & "head" and a separately piped no. 4 made from white chocolate dyed red was stuck on the corners to complete the look! The round cake pops were simply dipped in melted white chocolate and rolled around in mini heart sprinkles before the chocolate coating dried.
Happy 4th Birthday, Kailing! |
Packaged in cellophane and sealed with a metallic red twisty tie together with a personalized thank you note, these Queen of Hearts Guards cake pops make a nice little giveaways for the guests attending the Alice in Wonderland-themed birthday party!
